Paw Paw

Gloria Jane Corl, 82, of Paw Paw, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025, at Maple Lake Assisted Living.

She was born March 27, 1942, in Detroit, the daughter of Richard Tyler Belote and Virginia (Carpenter) Belote.

Education was Gloria's true passion. She worked at Howell Public Schools from 1971 to 1992, where she taught elementary (Southwest) and Middle (McPherson) school students. Watching her students excel brought her great joy. In the summer of 1986, Gloria met Ed Corl while working a summer job at the Donut Shop. She finally met the other Corl family (her last name was Koral too, just a different spelling) that people often asked if she was related to! After retirement in 1992, Gloria and Ed enjoyed traveling yearly to his Navy reunions with his shipmates, spending time at their cottage on Higgins Lake, and hanging out with all of their friends. After Ed passed, Gloria continued to travel around the US, Scotland, England, Australia and New Zealand.

In the summer months, she spent hours tending to her plants and flower beds while spending time outside appreciating their beauty. She also enjoyed cross-stitching, reading, coloring, and spending time with her friends, often traveling back to Howell to have lunch with "the ladies". Gloria found purpose with her dog, Windsor, being part of Three Rivers, visiting dogs, and going to hospitals and nursing homes to bring joy to people and residents.

After her Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2019, she enjoyed attending Autumn House, spending time doing crafts, coloring, engaging with friends daily, and helping her daughter with her perennial gardens.

She is survived by her daughter, Heather (Ruth) Koral of Paw Paw, her sister, Glenda "Rusty" Belote of Ocala, FL, and her three nieces, Melissa Belote of Ashboro, NC, Tracy (Brandon) Janowiak of Ludington, MI, and Susan Belote of Arlington, VA, and sister-in-law, Roberta Belote of Ludington, MI.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, her parents, her brother, Frank, and her fiance, James Theisen who lost his life while serving in the US Marines during Vietnam.

No funeral services will be held. Gloria will be interred with Ed at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
