Gerald LeRoy Brown, 90, of Mattawan, formerly of Ludington, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at his home in Mattawan.

Gerald was born on May 30, 1934, in Ludington, MI, the son of Roy B. and Emma C. (Swanson) Brown. He graduated from Ludington High School in 1952 and attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Western Michigan University. He proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1952-1956, stationed at Scholfield Barracks in Hawaii.

Gerald worked for the City of Kalamazoo in the Assessing Department for 10 years. He then transferred to Kalamazoo Charter Township as their assessor for 27 years. He was a member of Victory Trinity Lutheran Church in Ludington and Mattawan Community Church. He was also a past member of Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

After retirement, Gerald and his wife, Marianne, built a new house on the family farm in Victory Township and moved there in 1996. His biggest enjoyment was farming and raising a few of his own beef cattle. He also liked to travel and spend winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama in his Fifth Wheel trailer along with his family and many friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marianne E. (Rix) Brown, whom he married on July 27, 1979; his children, Lori A. (Larry) Edgerly, Lisa M. Lepley, Linda C. (Joe) Abercrombie; step-children, Michael S. Woodward, Anne Madaras and Sheri A. (Jeff) Duncan; grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Wilcox, James (Jennifer) Lepley, Sawyer (Marquette) Duncan and Carver (Brian Rodriguez) Duncan; great-grandchildren, Logan, Alex, Landen and Emma Wilcox. He is also survived by his niece, Susan (Tom) Parks and family.

Gerald is preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Harris; sister, Ardith (Leonard) Johnson and nephew, Kim Johnson and family.

Cremation has taken place. Gerald will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.
