Genevieve "Jean" McCaige, passed away Wednesday evening, May 30, 2012 with her family at her side in Bronson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lawton, MI. Genevieve was born April 28, 1915 in South Bend, IN the daughter of Michael and Stella (Leszcz) Janowiak. She was united in married to Casimer J. Makowski on Nov. 26, 1936. They had four children. She was employed at Studebaker in South Bend, IN then at Ball Band (Uniroyal) in Mishawaka, IN and finally at Notre Dame University until she retired. She was a member of Z. B. Falcons (a Fraternal organization), West Side Democratic Club and St. Casimers' Parish. "Cas" died of an accidental death on April 15, 1949. On May 2, 1959 in South Bend, IN she married Floyd "Mac" McCaige and moved to Paw Paw, MI several years later. "Mac" died on December 12, 2000. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw, MI and belonged to the Polish Woman's Club and the Altar Society at that church. She loved the church and always prayed the rosary for the sick or who ever needed prayers. She enjoyed working outdoors, summer or winter and living in her home on 3 Mile Lake in Paw Paw, MI. Jean is survived by two sons, Ralph Makowski of Buchanan, MI, Thomas (Charlotte) Makowski of Paw Paw; daughter, Michelene (Carl) Kay of South Bend, IN; 12 grandchildren, R. David (Shelly) Makowski of South Bend, IN, Elizabeth (Steve) Mrozinski of Rolling Prairie, IN, Mark Makowski of South Bend, IN, Stephanie (Tony) Rucano of Granger, IN, Cynthia (Jason) Branciforte of Oakton, VA, Christopher (Stacy) Makowski of Rushville, IN, Carlene Kay of Merango, IL, Kimberly (Larry) Brothers of Elkhart, IN, Carolyn (Gary) Niblock of White Pigeon, MI, Robert, and Steven Perkins and their families all from Colorado; 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, her daughter Patricia and her siblings, Bernice, Marie (Harry) Harringer, Edwin (Alice), Albin, Stanley and Daniel, step-son Raymond McCaige and two granddaughters Laura Perkins and N. Suzanne Makowski and one grandson William Perkins. The family would like to thank the staff at Bronson Nursing Home for the wonderful care that was given to their mother for the past 2A½ years. They are very special people and we were blessed for the kindness and compassion they all have. A special thank you to Bob Adams and his staff at the funeral home for his gentle guiding and direction at a very difficult time for us. Family will receive friends Sunday (6/3) 5-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Ave., Paw Paw, MI. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw, MI. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Paw Paw.
