Eunice "Eunie" A. Pelletier passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side on December 9, 2013, at the age of 80. She was born in Limestone, Mich., on May 28, 1933 to Louis Yokeum and Sheila (Atherton) Yokeum. As the eldest of 10 children raised in the logging camps of northern Michigan, Eunice became a skilled cook and compassionate caregiver at a young age. By age 14, she moved from her family to Munising, Mich., to work as a cook and maid at the local hospital while attending Munising High School where she graduated in 1951. In 1952 she married Joseph Pelletier and they raised their family of five children in Munising until their divorce in 1968. Eunice relocated to Lansing, Mich., to work as a supervisor at Michigan Bell. In 1979 she moved north to Kiva, Mich., to use her cooking skills as the owner and operator of The Wheel's Restaurant. In 1997 she relocated to Paw Paw, Mich., to work as a private in-home aide for a lovely elderly women in Kalamazoo, Mich., for several years. Then she became the dedicated childcare provider for her three young grandchildren (Jack, Elise and Claire Pelletier) for the next 11 years. Eunice enjoyed living independently at Miller Court Senior Apartments where she played cards and bingo with her neighbors. She loved to travel to the U.P. to visit her oldest friends and family. She enjoyed playing her guitar and singing around the campfire. Eunice is survived by her brothers Jerry (Janet) Yoekum, Patrick (Rose) Yokeum, Ted (Martha) Yokeum, Terry (Sandy) Yokeum, and her sister Vivian Platias, her children David Pelletier of Kent, Wash., Michelle Cox and Rae Jean Miller of Munising, Diana (Marty) Rouse and Daniel (Michele) Pelletier of Paw Paw, her grandchildren William (Sherri) Cox IV, Heather (Michael) Abney, Jeff (Melissa) Miller, Angela Miller, Jack, Elise and Claire Pelletier, ten great grandchildren, two great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Eunice was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, her son-in-law William Cox III, and granddaughter Tamara Miller. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013, 12 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Avenue, Paw Paw (657-6347) with a celebration of life luncheon for family and friends immediately following the service until 3:00 p.m. at The St, Julian Winery Apollo Banquet Hall, 716 S. Kalamazoo Street in Paw Paw. The family will also host a memorial service in Munising over the Memorial Day Weekend 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
