Elizabeth Ann Kurzmann, age 74 of Lawrence, passed away peacefully at home on June 21, 2021. She was born on December 23, 1946 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the daughter of the late John R. and Mary Alice (Dunn) Dorgan.
During her high school years, she was a member of the honor society. She was also a member of the cheerleading squad. Later in life, Elizabeth worked as a paraprofessional and was passionate about working with special needs children. She was devoted to her Catholic Faith and was a long-time member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hartford, Michigan.
Elizabeth had many hobbies that she loved. She was an avid reader. She spent time doing cross stitch, watching the birds and gardening; daisies being her favorite flower. She also enjoyed baking sweets and sharing them with family and friends. Elizabeth loved being Irish and would celebrate St. Patrick's Day to the fullest every year. She was also a huge Notre Dame fan.
Elizabeth especially loved spending time with her family and cherished holiday dinners together. She was very fond of her grandchildren and enjoyed time with them. In their words, “Grandma was a very strong woman, she was always kind, cheerful and loving”. She was a true friend to those that knew her. Elizabeth loved to talk and her phone calls were never short.
People would describe Elizabeth as a woman who saw the world as a glass half full. She never complained, even during her 25-year battle with cancer. Her strong will, courage and unwavering faith make her a true testament for us all. You could say she had grit.
Her many community involvements include being a Cub Scout Pack leader, working with the Boy Scouts, being a Soccer Coach and being on the funeral committee. She was also active in Right to Life and an active member of Immaculate Conception Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald Kurzmann, two sons, Matt (Kerrin) Kurzmann and Dan (Kelly) Kurzmann, five grandchildren Kaelin, Luke, Grace, Blake and Henrik, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Dorgan.
