Elaine Gwendolyn (Field) Maxa

January 15, 1927 — August 16, 2016

Elaine Gwendolyn Maxa, age 89, of Paw Paw, passed away at her residence August 16, 2016. She was born January 15, 1927 in Lawrence Michigan to the late Claude and Ursula Field. She is survived by her six children, Gale (late Janet) Bergeson, George (Linda) Bergeson, Elaine (Daryl) Bean, Frank (Dawn) Maxa, Joe (Vicki) Maxa and Caroldee (Richard) Althouse, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two brothers, Larry Field and Ted (Ginny) Field along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her brothers, Art and Ray and her sister, Betty. Elaine retired when she was in her mid-70’s, not only did she work, but she also was very active in the community. She served 55 years as leader of 4H, longtime member of the Red Hat Society, volunteer with the Relay for Life and an active member of the First Congregational Church in Lawrence. Elaine truly enjoyed living at Miller Court where she and her friends made craft items which they donated to the community. She also enjoyed playing bingo and the many trips they would take.  Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, August 19, from 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 W, Michigan Ave, Paw Paw. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Lawrence, with Rev. David Small officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Memorial donations may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center in Kalamazoo.
