Edward Duane "Red" Sampsell, age 80, of Paw Paw, passed away December 29, 2015. He was born January 10, 1935 in Kalamazoo to the late Albert and Pauline (Hughes) Sampsell. He is survived by his four daughters; Brenda (Terry Rice) Blanton, Karen Sampsell, Paula (John) Akers and Lisa (Paul Soule) Sampsell, foster daughter, Cindy McKnight, four brothers; Paul, Leo, Don and Alan, three sisters; Yvonne, Roberta and June, ten grandchildren; Kassie, Josh, Vanessa, Noe, Jessica, Carrie, Bradly, Ryan, Amanda and Sean, along with eight great grandchildren, special aunt, Donna Schur and special friend, Rachel. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene and his sister, Nancy. Red proudly served his country in the Army, he was retired from the Van Buren County Road Commission where he was a longtime employee, truly enjoying his job. He was a life member of the VFW 5315 in Baldwin, MI, where he served as a guard and trustee and also played on the pool league. Red and two other members of the VFW donated their time one entire summer painting the tank in front of the VFW. In his free time and retirement, Red enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR Racing, and spending time outdoors in nature and gardening. Red taught his daughters a strong work ethic. They would play cards together and would have to gang up on him to win. He taught them to follow the rules and no cheating. Red especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services for Red will be private. He will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
