Edward Moses Lindsey, the son of Moses Edward and Charlemagne Lindsey was born June 29, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the eldest of two sons born of their union: his brother Reginald and both parents preceded him in death. In his youth, Edward attended services at Quinn Chapel AME Church with his parents and his brother. Edward was proud of his family's connection to the church, which housed Chicago's oldest African American congregation. He delighted in telling friends about the role Quinn Chapel played in the the city's abolitionist movement prior to the civil war. Edward attended James McCosh Elementary School and Tilden Technical High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Roosevelt University, in 1968. While at Roosevelt, Edward pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. An affiliation he maintained throughout his life. On March 17, 1968 Edward married Jo Phyllis Luke (divorced) at Quinn Chapel AME Church. This union produced four children Musa Alabo, Makeda Astarte, Nefertari Adeleke, and Kwame Kareem (deceased). He was married a second time to Patricia New (divorced), on September 1, 1979, in a private ceremony. This union produced one child Courtney Sade. Edward began his professional career, in 1968, as a National Bank Examiner for the US Treasury Department. He was a highly regarded financial manager who eventually held positions at First Chicago Corporation, GE Capital and CNH Capital. After retiring once, Edward accepted a position managing the loan department at Illinois Service Federal Bank, fulfilling a professional goal of working for a Black-owned financial institution. Edward's final professional position was at the FDIC bringing his career full circle as he was once again working as a bank examiner. Edward's career allowed him to travel extensively throughout the world. Including three years spent living and working in London, England. During this time he was also able to provide his children with the opportunity to live and travel abroad; an experience for which they are all extremely grateful. Edward had a summer home on Eagle Lake in Michigan. And despite having traveled to every continent at least once, this was his most favorite place in the world. A life-long fisherman, he would find time to fish most weekends. A passion he was able to transfer to most of his children. He was also a valued member of the Eagle Lake Palmer Beach Association Edward had many interests in addition to fishing. He was a sports enthusiast never missing a Bulls or Bears game. He was an amateur photographer, never leaving home without one of his many cameras. An avid collector, Edward had large collections of African artifacts, artwork, marbles, and antiques. On September 18, 2011 Edward Lindsey departed this world at his favorite place, engaged in the hobby he loved best, fishing on Eagle Lake. He leaves behind his loving children, Musa, Makeda, Nefertari, and Courtney. His grandchildren Adenike Cotton, Aaliyah Lindsey and LaNya Davis; his Aunt Alice Laws, cousins Lewis Williams, Karyn Stewart, Vanessa Baker, Ginny McCohnell, and a host of relatives, dear friends and co-workers.
