Edgar "Jack" Bennett Austin, 89, of Paw Paw, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Borgess Pipp Hospital in Plainwell.
He was born August 22, 1934, in Paw Paw, Michigan, the son of Edgar Charles Austin and Morgie Violet (Glidden) Austin.
Jack grew up on his family farm in Mattawan, he was taught the value of hard work from a young age. He attended Western Michigan University and Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, where he earned a bachelor's degree. Jack proudly served his country in the Army Security Agency from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956.
One day, Jack purchased a Grape Harvester and brought it back to Paw Paw on a train. This was the first of its kind to be brought to little Paw Paw. Through his continued effort and passion, Jack ended up owning one of the largest grape farms this side of the Mississippi!
Aside from his professional life, he enjoyed travelling and had been to countless sights around the world. He was very sharp with his computer and used it quite a lot, he was still trading stocks online.
He is survived by his brother, Randy Austin along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald and Dale Austin.
He will be laid to rest next to his parents at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mattawan. Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ron Packer officiating.
