Earline Hitt

Earline passed away Monday evening, October 21, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. She was born April 4, 1930 in Decatur, Alabama, the daughter of Benny Thomas and Martha Jane (Treadway) Reeves. Earline moved to the area with her family in 1968 and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, excellent cook and devoted caregiver to her son, Roger. She enjoyed taking care of the animals on the farm, especially the chickens, and was no stranger to hard work, cutting and stacking cords of wood and tending to her plants and flowers.
On July 28, 1962, Earline was united in marriage to James R. Hitt, who survives. Also surviving are 8 children, Elizabeth (Doc) Harville of Orangeville, MI, Roger Godsey, at home, Tom (Cindy) Godsey of Paw Paw, Juanita (Don) Smith of Kalamazoo, Rick (Lucy) Hitt of Kalamazoo, Jack (Shelly) Hitt of Gobles, Tony (Stacey) Hitt of Kalamazoo and Scott (Lynn) Hitt of Kalamazoo; 20 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; a brother James (Judy) Reeves of Ohio and sister Christine Burks of Flint; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Willie Lee, a grandson, Corey Jack Hitt and three sisters, Ruby, Hazel and Jewel.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Church of God, 708 S. George St., Decatur, Rev. Mike Heflin, officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Mattawan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
