Dixie L. Pedersen, 86, passed away with family by her side on Friday, May 17th, 2024, in her home in Decatur, MI.
Dixie was born on April 28th, 1938, to Dick and Grace (Hunsberger) Murphy in Dowagiac, MI. She graduated from Dowagiac Union High School in 1956 and went on to hold a job as a telephone operator.
On April 20, 1968, Dixie married the love of her life, Don, with whom she spent 55 wonderful years. Don and Dixie went on to have two daughters, Shari and Lori. Along with raising her girls and maintaining the family home, Dixie worked as an aid at the elementary school in Decatur. She later became a cashier at Hardings Supermarket, also in Decatur, for several years until she made the decision to stay home full time to care for her first granddaughter, Hilari.
Dixie had a fun-loving spirit and enjoyed doing many things. When she wasn’t in the kitchen baking or cooking one of the family’s favorite recipes, you could find her working in the yard or visiting a garage sale. Above all, Dixie loved spending time with her family, and she always strived to make sure they were all well taken care of.
Dixie is survived by her sister, Mary Darr; her daughters, Shari Dean and Lori (Dave) Walker; her grandchildren, Hilari Sabo, Tyler Wiles, Devin (Nichole Hiscock) Krogel, Kierra (Ryan Downs) Krogel, Amber Krogel, and Zachary Dean; her step-grandchildren, Madison (Kyler) Munro, and Cameron (Emma Fraker) Walker; her great grandchildren, Brody and Ava Sabo, Annabelle and Sophia Wiles, and Waylon Krogel; and a long-time family friend who Dixie thought of as her own son, Mark Graham. Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Don.
A private graveside service will be held for family at Lakeside Cemetery in Decatur on June 1st, 2024. Donations may be made in support of Hospice of Michigan. Checks can be mailed to Hospice of Michigan, 989 Spaulding SE, Ada, MI 49301.
