Debra Ann Hoffer, 66, of Lawton, Michigan passed away on January 1, 2020 in Niles, Michigan.
She was born May 11, 1953 and grew up near Lawton, Michigan, raised by her mother and step-father, in the middle of a family of five girls and four boys. The family used to sit down and have a blast playing games.
There home was the place to be, because everyone had fun. They also learned to earn their way from an early age. Debbie helped the family out by picking strawberries, raspberries and cherries from the age of two, making sure to pick the biggest best berries so that her mama would be proud.
Debra met her late husband and love of her life, Jon Hoffer, when she traveled to Oklahoma to visit a potential beau. It was a friendly rivalry, with no hard feelings when Jon got the girl. Debbie and Jon married and lived on a farm in Oklahoma for many years, where they grew vegetables and cultivated flowers and tropical plants. They had hummingbirds and made stained-glass windows. Debbie also learned to design and make jewelry.
Later Jon and Debbie returned to her Michigan roots. Debbie worked as an aide at her alma mater, Paw Paw High School. The kids there would open up and talk to her.
After Jon’s passing in 2007, Debbie fell on hard times, both emotionally and financially. But with a strong spirituality and caring for others, Debbie retained her positive attitude.
Debbie was preceded in death by her husband Jon Hoffer, her mother Addie (King) Ramsey, step-father James Ramsey and brother Tim Underwood.
She is survived by her siblings Mary Ann Steele, Betty Rodrigues, Tom Underwood, Brinda Vowels and Tina (Mark) Evans. Step Brothers James Ramsey and Tim (Dana) Ramsey. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. No services are planned at this time.
