David Howard Vogt

David Howard Vogt, age 73, of Paw Paw, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 2, 2017. He was born in Chicago on February 22, 1944 to the late Ulreh Jr. and Daisy (Corneilson) Vogt. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Lyons) Vogt, four children, Ulreh (Paty) Vogt, David Jr. (Jody) Vogt, Laura Vogt and Christopher Sr. (Marie) Vogt, grandchildren, Marisa, Matthew, Sarah, Kelly, Kaelee, Shayla, Christopher Jr, Kristy and Nicolas, two step-grandchildren, Kathy and Dakota, his sister, Mary Jane Vogt along with many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his brother, Ulreh III and two sisters, Dolores and Jeannie. Following graduation from Culver Military Academy, David joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1965. During this time he was responsible for playing taps morning and night, he received the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged in 1971 as Lance Corporal E-3. Upon returning home, he worked at the family business, Vogts Wine Shop, in Chicago, where he was in charge of maintenance until 2002 and later moved to Paw Paw where he purchased a hay farm. He had many hobbies and interest which included, fishing, hunting and working on cars and boats. He was a proud member of the Paw Paw Conservation Club and was always willing to lend and hand and help out in any way he could. Friends are invited to visit with the family and celebrate David’s life on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave, Paw Paw and again on Saturday morning from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Paw Paw. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Joseph Xavier officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery with a reception following at St. Mary’s hall.
