David Matthew Brusach, 69, of Mattawan, MI, passed away early Tuesday, October 23, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 12, 1948, the son of Peter and Margaret (Hosh) Brusach.
David attended Western Michigan University. While studying, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served faithfully with the B Company, 720th Military Police Battalion but was discharged from the 188th MP Company. He and his squad served as ambush and reconnaissance patrolling 22 square miles during the Vietnam War. Upon his return home he went to work as a yard master at Botsford Rail yard in Kalamazoo, eventually retiring from the railroad in Elkhart, Indiana.
David was a nature lover with a huge heart. He enjoyed farming, sailing, fishing, and all animals. In his younger years he was part of a sailing club that would race on Lake Michigan, as well as going out to Colorado to enjoy some downhill ski time. David did not only enjoy making homemade wine or “Vino” as he called it, but he was very well known for it. He also loved to spend time on his farm, admiring the weather, from sunsets to listening to the rain hit his workshop roof; He loved to gather his friends and family in his workshop to share stories and make memories.
David is survived by his Son, Brian Brusach; Grandchildren, Katelyn and Matthew Brusach; his Sister, Celine (Robert) Lanting, and a host of other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Margaret; Sister, Katherine Kucinich, and a Grandson, Nicholas Robert Brusach.
Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave, on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service to begin at 2:00 p.m. with Father Alan Jorgensen officiating.
