With great difficulty, our family is announcing the passing of our beloved patriarch, Daniel "Dan" Alkema, who left this earth unexpectedly on October 4, 2024, at the age of 69. Dan was born December 16, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Dan lived a full and inspiring life, one that we will try to emulate as long as we live. Dan was an award winning editor for over 30 years. He worked on everything from Health Documentaries to Sesame Street. Dan loved to travel, having visited five continents in his travels with his wife, Bonnie. He was an avid reader which ignited his deep passion for traveling. Dan had a wonderful sense of humor that would make everyone smile. In life, he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and an Elder at the church.
Dan leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Bonnie (Hospers) Alkema; two children, Chris (Kelly) and Jessica (Mike) and three grandchildren. Also sharing our loss is his mother-in-law, sister-in-law, two nieces, two nephews and several cousins.
Dan was predeceased by his father, Cornelius Alkema; mother, Cora (Beirens) Alkema and one brother.
The family will be gathering privately to celebrate Dan's life. If you wish, please raise a glass to honor his remarkable life.
