Charles Smith, 88, of Paw Paw, passed away Thursday August 6, 2020 at his home with his family at his side.

He was born January 8, 1932 in  Montreal Quebec Canada to the son of the late Ufford Smith and Jennie (Barrett) Smith.

Charlie moved to Paw Paw when he was just two. He served in the Marine Corp during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion McGowan-Johnson Post 68. He retired from Sherwin Williams in Kalamazoo as store manager after 31 years of service.  He then went on to work as a supervisor for Knause Foods in Paw Paw for many years. Charlie served for many years as Paw Paw Village President. He was a  Longtime parishioner at Saint Mary Catholic Church. Charlie enjoyed the outdoors, taking care of his yard and garden. He loved to sit in his three seasons room at home and admire his yard.

On April 11, 1953 in Paw Paw at Saint Mary Catholic Church he married JoAnn (Kobe) Smith who survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Tonda (Louis) Smith-Koshar; son, Michael  Smith; four grandchildren, Steven (Monica) Barrett, Brianna (Jordan) Chopp, Jenna (Alex) Kahila and Selina (Ruben) Hernandez; five great-grandchildren, Kylee, Jayda, Alexa, Hudson and Royce along with his best Canine Companion, Sami.

Charlie was preceded in death by his son, Richard Smith and his brother, Ernest Smith.

Cremation has taken place. Charlie will be laid to rest at Wildey Cemetery in Paw Paw at a later date with military honors.
