Cecilia Katherine Bain

Cecilia Katherine Bain, 88, of Paw Paw, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo.

She was born June 23, 1936, in Paw Paw, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph Kowalski Sr.and Katherine (Gozdecki) Kowalski. Cecilia grew up on the family farm, where she was taught how to do almost everything by her Dad, including electrical and plumbing work. 

Cecilia was a longtime member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Paw Paw and was part of the Altar Society. She and her late husband, Gary, owned and operated the C&G Party Store for many years before retiring.

Cecilia was a woman of many talents and skills, truly a jack of all trades. She was known as someone who could do basically anything! Cecilia loved to golf with her husband and friends and play cards. She also dabbled in gardening, reading, and cooking. She enjoyed doing crossword and word search puzzles. The most important thing to her, however, was her family. She was their biggest supporter and adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Cecilia was treasured by all who knew her and she will be deeply missed.

On November 30, 1957, she married Gary Bain, who preceded her in death on July 14, 2011.

She is survived by her four children, Sandra (Randy) Reszka, Michael (Pamela) Bain, Janice (Randy) VanDam and Joseph Bain; her seven grandchildren, Jonathon (Arika), Katie (Cody), Eric (Kelsey), Kevin, Natalie (Rolo), Kelly (Christian), and Kylee; four great-grandchildren, Cole, Audrey, Matthew, Ava Grace, and many special friends.

Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gary, and siblings, Joseph, Louise, Tom, Theresa, Jim, and Tony.

In following with Cecilia’s wishes, no formal visitation will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 209 N. Brown Street, Paw Paw. Cecilia will be laid to rest immediately following in Saint Mary Cemetery.
