Barney John Ross, age 78, passed away Monday afternoon, January 19, 2015 at his home after a lengthy illness with his family at his side. Barney was born December 27, 1936 in Chicago, IL the son of the late William I. and Edna M. (Heck) Ross. He was employed by Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad as Brakeman and Monon Railroad until his retirement. He then was employed by the United State Postal Service in Kalamazoo until his final retirement in 1997. Barney was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw and the Knights of Columbus Council #3798, Paw Paw. He was the Knights of Columbus State Athletic Director for 4 years, Athletic Director for the Men's Basketball league in Paw Paw for many years and a bingo worker for 15 years at St. Mary's School. On May 26, 1956 in Paw Paw, Barney was united in marriage to Florence Lula who survives. Also surviving are four daughters: Denise (Frank) Lobody of Portage, IN, Alli Ross of Paw Paw, Tena (Norman) Collins of Schoolcraft, and Terri (James) Bryan of Portage; son: Dennis (Lynn) Ross of Paw Paw; 3 granddaughters; 12 grandsons; 1 great granddaughter; 2 great grandsons; two brothers: Donald (Shirley) Ross of Seattle, WA and Richard (Joanne) Ross of Monroe, OH; sister: Jackie (Ed) Cusack of Costa Rica, Central America; many nieces and nephews. Barney was preceded in death by a brother, William I. Ross, J. and a sister Joan Slachta. Family will receive friends Friday, (Jan 23) , 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a K of C Rosary will be held Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Joseph Xavier officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School, Paw Paw.
