Barbara Jean Harris, 84, of Lawton, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 31, 2023, at her home.
She was born November 13, 1938, in Battle Creek, the daughter of the late Andrew Shick and Jeanette (Clark) Shick.
Barb loved music and had great talent playing the piano and the accordion. She was proud of the family band that she started that was named Family Tradition. She had fond childhood memories of growing up on the farm. Those days led to her love for her garden and canning. She also loved the outdoors to enjoy simple things, like the outdoors and bird watching, especially hummingbirds. She also cherished her extensive tea pot collection. Barb took great pride in crocheting and embroidery. She shared these many items with her loving family. Right up until her final days, Barb enjoyed her chocolate and always figured out a way to get it.
On May 20, 1961, in Decatur, she married Carl Jean Harris who survives.
She is also survived by her four daughters, Laura Elmore, Karen (Jim) Vettese, Theresa (Jeff) Skapnit and Julie (Bill) Pierce, eight grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her infant son, Michael Harris.
Family and friends are invited to visit Friday, September 8, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, 502 West Michigan Ave, Paw Paw, where a celebration of life will commence at 1:00 p.m. Following services, there will be a luncheon at the funeral home. Burial will conclude at Wildey Cemetery, Paw Paw.
