Art passed away Monday morning, June 2, 2014 at Bronson LakeView Hospital, Paw Paw. He was born October 15, 1947 in East Orange, NJ the son of late Arthur John and Ella Marie (Turner) Smith, Sr. He was the eldest of 3 sons. He attended public schools in South Orange, NJ graduating from Columbia High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree at Delaware Valley College in 1969 and served in the United States Navy from 1969-1973 during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a bank liquidator with F.D.I.C. until his retirement in 1999. On December 30, 1976 in Rahway, N.J. Art was united in marriage to Jeanette M. Marks who survives, they met as teenagers but did not begin a relationship until adulthood. Arthur proposed to Jean on their first date. Also surviving are, 2 daughters, Stephanie (fiancAC., Eric Schulte) of New York and Wendy Brown of Illinois; 2 grandchildren, Tamika Brown and B.J. Mansoori; 2 great grandchildren, Xavier and Julius Augustine; 2 brothers, Leslie Smith of Union, NJ and Ronnie Smith of Florida; numerous niece, nephews and cousins. Arthur was a wonderful husband and father. He was very devoted and committed . He loved to travel and has been around the world three times. His greatest love of all besides his family was fishing and hunting. He would have fished every day of his life if he could. Arthur had the greatest laugh that seemed to go on forever. No matter what was going on in his life he always had a big smile and tried to find humor in everything. Family will receive friends, Thursday, (6/5) 2 to 4 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where funeral services will be held following visitation at 4 p.m. with Rev. Trevor McDermont of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church officiating. Interment with military honors will be held Friday 11:30 a.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetry, Augusta, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
