Art passed away Wednesday evening, September 25, 2013 at his home. He was born one of thirteen children on January 10, 1920 in Paw Paw the son of the late Fred C. and H. Rose (Hazen) Mumford. Art was a 1939 graduate of Paw Paw High School and was employed as bus supervisor for Gobles schools, then owned and operated the Corner Store at Armstrong Corners for 12 years with his wife and later employed by the Dept. of Natural Resources until his retirement in 1985. After retirement he built his own cabin up North. Art was a life member of the Paw Paw-Lawton Lodge # 25 F &AM., and the Paw Paw High School Old Timers Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tinkering. On February 8, 1941 in Paw Paw, Art was united in marriage to Ethel J. Butcher who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Arlene (Steve) Verburg of Kalamazoo; son, Charles (Debra) Mumford of Lawrence; daughter-in-law, Katherine Mumford of Gobles; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Doris Ann (Sheldon) Weed of Henderson, NV; many nieces and nephews. Dear friend and 65 year hunting buddy, Don Dean of Gobles. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Donald and Robert Mumford; granddaughter, Tara Sperry; 6 brothers, Homer, Maxwell, Frank "Jim", Larry, Clyde and Fred Mumford; 5 sisters, Esther Maxam, Pluma Rowe, Beth Marconi, Donna Fewell and Betty Jane Geil. Family will receive friends, Sunday (9/29) 5 to 8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a Mason Service will be held during Sunday evening visitation at 7:00 p.m. under the auspices of the Paw Paw-Lawton Lodge # 25 F&AM. Funeral services will be held Monday 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Robinson Cemetery, Gobles. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice.
