Surrounded by loved ones, Arnold (Arnie) McGrew passed away early morning on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Rose Arbor, Kalamazoo, MI. Arnold was born on May 6, 1926. He was the 9th child of Henry and Ella McGrew of Clarkson, Kentucky.
He was a resident of Paw Paw, MI for 67 years, then moved to White Oaks Assisted Living in Lawton, MI for the past four years.
Arnold married Vernena (Nena) Pearl Hall December 23, 1945 at Georgianna Methodist Church in Merritt Island, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, all nine siblings, and a son-in-law (Bill Nichols). He is survived by his four children. Sharon (Chuck) Abshagen of Onaway, MI, Merna Heffernan, of Paw Paw, MI, Sheila Nichols of Schoolcraft, MI, and Rhonda Ryan of Gobles, MI. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Douglas (Kazuna) Abshagen, Danica (Jeff) Nowak, Denise (Dan) Kudra, Michelle Heffernan (Brian Blodgett), Melissa (Scott) Sholander, Melinda (Kenneth) Nichols, and Dustin (Destiny) Kamrowski. He is also survived by his 12 great grandchildren.
Arnold enjoyed being employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years. He served 14 years as a letter carrier in Paw Paw, MI and then the last 14 years of his career at the Miller Road Post Office in Kalamazoo, MI. He was a Veteran of both World War II and the Korean War honorably serving in the U.S. Navy. He had a heart of gold and relished his family. Arnold thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings and reunions, holidays, and summer hayrides. He also enjoyed having early morning coffee with his friends at the Grapevine and later at the Copper Grille. He loved to play the guitar and harmonica. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to your favorite charity.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11:00 am at Wildey Cemetery, Paw Paw., with Dennis McGrew officiating. .
