It is with great sadness that the family of Al announces his sudden passing. A man whose life was marked by service, faith, and love for his family, Allen Harold Roedel, age 76, went to meet the Lord on Monday, April 1, 2024.
Al was born in Saginaw, Michigan on a beautiful fall day on October 26, 1947, son to the late Harold and Stella Roedel.
Al graduated from Frankenmuth High School in 1965. He went on to earn a degree in industrial engineering from GMI in 1970. Following his graduation, Al proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1970-1976.
Al dedicated 31 years to engineering at Delphi before retiring. He eventually transitioned to his retirement job as head custodian at Angling Road Elementary in Portage, where he found great joy in seeing smiling faces of the children every day.
Al was a loyal Michigan State fan and a holder of football season tickets for two decades. He forged enduring memories alongside numerous friends and family during countless MSU football tailgates. Many who knew him well often saw him sporting his beloved green and white.
Al was a devout Christian, and his faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was deeply involved in Trinity Lutheran Church in Paw Paw, serving as an elder, usher, and lending his voice to the church choir.
On July 1st, 1967 Al was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Kathleen Fischer who he leaves behind after 57 happy years together. Al was the proud father to 3 children who also survive him, Kirk (Kelly) Roedel, Marisa (Gordy) Leighton, and Mary (Eric) Williams. Al’s greatest joy in life was his family and especially his grandchildren Derek (Brandi), Brandon (Jillian), Lauren, Estella, Luke, Drew, and his great granddaughter Blair. He will also be deeply missed by so many other cherished family members and dear friends.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth, brother Fred, nephew Alec, and his mother and father in law.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Friday, April 5th, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church 721 Pine Street, Paw Paw, at 2:00 p.m., celebration of life service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Philip Phifer and Rev. Ronald C. Moritz officiating.
