Albert B. Treat, age 94, of Paw Paw, passed away Tuesday morning, September 18, 2018, at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence, Battle Creek, MI. Al was born August 12, 1924, in Paw Paw the son of the late Allen and Edith (Chase) Treat.
Al was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as an Armed Guard for Merchant Ships in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (McKinley-Wilson-Hall Post #2532, Paw Paw) and a life member and Past Commander of the American Legion (McGowan-Johnson Post #68, Paw Paw). He was the co-chairman and driving force behind the construction of the Maple City Veterans Memorial Park in Paw Paw. Al was a member of the American Legion Past Commanders Club and very instrumental in forming and coaching the Paw Paw American Legion Baseball Program. He was a member of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church, and a Life Member and Past Master of the Paw Paw-Lawton Masonic Lodge # 25 F&AM and Shriners. In addition, Al was the principle force behind the major reconstruction of the Paw Paw-Lawton Masonic Lodge building.
On February 14, 1943, in Gobles, MI, Al was united in marriage to June E. Herriman who preceded him in death on October 18, 2005. He was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy Treat on August 29, 2014; three brothers, Marshall, Gary, and Wilbur Treat; two sisters, Annabelle Krajewski, and Ada Wright.
Surviving are a son, Terry (Sandy) Treat of Rochester Hills, MI, a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Treat of Mishawaka, IN, a foster daughter, Beverly Hulse of Monticello, MN; grandchildren, Chris Treat of Texas, Kimberly (John) Saunders of Canton, GA, Michelle Roth (Ryan) of Mishawaka, IN, Michael (Sarah) Treat of Canton, GA, Nicole (Ryan) Filippis of Oxford Township, MI; 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Al was a great father to his sons and mentor to his grandchildren and many young men in our community and a stable force within the organizations he served so faithfully.
The family will receive friends Friday Sept. 21, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. under the auspices of Paw Paw-Lawton, Lodge # 25 F&AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept 22, 11 a.m. at the Paw Paw United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bob Lynch officiating. Interment will follow in Wildey Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Maple City Veterans Memorial Park, c/o American Legion Post 68 or any Van Buren hospice.
