Antoinette Irene (Segalla) Nieroda, 89, of Mattawan went to be with her Lord on July 21, 2019. Irene was born on June 3, 1930 to the late Joseph and Caroline (DeRossi) Segalla. She married Chester Nieroda on November 17, 1951; he preceded her in death in 2006 after 55 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were her two brothers Luciano and Anthony Segalla, her cherished sisters Armida (John) Bortolon and Dolores (Slim) Wegeler and a special niece Jackie Sue Wegeler.
Irene retired from Eaton Corporation in Battle Creek after 30 years of dedicated service. In her retirement, she was able to spend more time spoiling her seven nieces and nephews, Carol (Jack) Locke, Joan Bortolon, Joette (Dave) Meisling, Greg (late Karen) Wegeler, Tony (Kim) Wegeler, Connie (Randy) Small and Alan (Marcy) Wegeler and her 17 great nieces and nephews , Nicholas (Dawn) Locke, Andrew (Lauren) Locke, Caroline (Matt) Kestner, Angela and Sarah Meisling, Eric (Krystle) Wegeler, Ethan (Emily) Wegeler, Elyse (Jessie) Paxson, Jordan (Lindsey) Wegeler, Caleb Wegeler, Derrick Small, Garner (Bailey) Small, Jacquelyn (Aaron) DeWaal, Savannah and Walker Small, Monica and Ashton Wegeler and her two great great nephews, Nolan and Landon, and a host of other loving friends and family. Her nieces, nephews and all who knew her benefited from her heart of gold and the generosity of her time and wisdom to help to those around her.
Aunt Irene was an excellent cook and no family gathering was complete without her famous “angel” eggs, sauerkraut and sausage, and chips and dip. She loved watching the many birds which visited her yard for a good meal. She was a talented oil and ceramic painter, greeting card designer and knitter. Irene and Chester traveled extensively including a special excursion to Israel and Egypt and several visits to Italy with her mother and sisters to visit family.
Aunt Irene was a woman of deep faith and a member of the Believer’s Fellowship Church in Coloma. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and she lived her life according to God’s words. She loved the Lord and was comforted in knowing she was going to be with Him for eternity. She was a blessing to everyone she met. Praise the Lord!
Her nieces and nephews will receive friends on Saturday, July 27, 2019, from 10:30a.m. to 12 noon at the Adams Funeral Home in Paw Paw. Funeral services will follow immediately after at 12noon with Pastor Mark Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Mattawan.
In lei of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Wings of God or Believer’s Fellowship Church.
