Marilyn Jeanne (Atwater) Hazelton, 81, of Lawton, passed away peacefully Monday December 25, 2023, at Blueberry Hill Assisted Living in Lawton.
She was born June 5, 1942, in Paw Paw, the daughter of Maurice Atwater and Jeanne (Lamme) Atwater.
Marilyn was an extremely hardworking person. She was a Ham radio operator (N8BFI) for 50 years! She worked many years as a bookkeeper for Lawton Schools, where she retired from. Her heart of gold also led her to volunteer in Lawton for the "Education Foundation". After retirement, Marilyn enjoyed wintering down in the Florida sun.
Marilyn had a God-given talent for sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She made hundreds of quilts by hand. Every family member and friend has a hand-made quilt from Marilyn. She even took her quilts to various shows and won many awards. Marilyn was one of the founders of the Lawton Country Quilters, a place where avid quilters, like herself, could get together, learn new skills and techniques and showcase their art. Marilyn was named “Quilter of the Year” 2023.
On November 23, 1960, she married Gary Hazelton who survives.
She is also survived by her two daughters; Sue Widner and Teresa (Troy) Shields, granddaughter; Britni (John) Rickson, great-granddaughter; Hayley Rickson, sister; Maureen (Joseph) Beall and two brothers; Thomas (Marcia) and Ken (Amy) Atwater.
